The Pfizer Vaccine
The Basics
- How is Pfizer vaccine stored? Store vaccine in an ultra-cold freezer, thermal shipping container, or refrigerator. See guidance below for each storage unit.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for returning the thermal shipping container.
- Each thermal shipping container holds up to 5 trays of vaccine. Each tray contains 195 multidose vials (975 doses).
- Use vaccine vials stored in the refrigerator before removing vials from frozen storage.
- Check and record storage unit temperature each workday. See guidance in the PDF below for each type of storage unit. Save storage records for 3 years, unless your jurisdiction requires a longer time period.

The Moderna Vaccine
The Basics
- How is Moderna vaccine stored? Store vaccine in a freezer or refrigerator. See guidance below for each storage unit.
- Each box contains 10 multidose vials (100 doses).
- Use vaccine vials stored in the refrigerator before removing vials from frozen storage.
- This vaccine does not need to be mixed with a diluent before administration.
- Check and record storage unit temperature each workday. See guidance in the PDF below for each type of temperature monitoring device. Save storage records for 3 years, unless your jurisdiction requires a longer time period.
